Greetings from Belize!

A game of marbles in Liberated!

Kids on their way to Tuesday Morning Devotions; Libertad Methodist School

Even though this picture was not taken at Easter Sunrise, this is what it looked like at the park in Corozal at our Easter Sunrise Service!

We hope this update finds everyone well!

Wow! Easter is over and what a joy it has been to spend my first Holy Week and Easter with the congregations of the Corozal Methodist Circuit! Of course, we started off with a Palm Sunday Parade from Central Park and made our way to the Corozal Methodist Church with police escort! We had a mini version of a parade in Liberated and in the afternoon a Palm Sunday service with the Ranchito Congregation. Following Palm Sunday, we had three nights of an outdoor eangelical services. Because the Seventh Day Adventist Church beat us to the park this year, we had our services in the School/Church parking lot in Corozal. We had a good turnout all three nights! For Maundy Thursday, we had a “Love Feast” at Corozal and Libertad. Good Friday, we had a morning service at Corozal and Libertad. Easter began with a 5:00am sunrise service watching the sun slowly rise over the bay followed by services at Corozal, Libertad and Ranchito! Lisa counted 13 services between Palm Sunday morning and Easter afternoon!!!

Honey Camp Lagoon Family Day

The Easter festivities are capped off on Easter Monday which is Family Day! We took a busload of persons from Corozal and Libertad to a nearby park called Honey Camp Lagoon. It is a freshwater lake sort of thing. Good food, great fellowship, fun times!!!!

So now, Jamie is playing catch up! The kids have been out of school for two weeks and today is the first day back to class!

Lisa continues to work with the UMVIM teams from the states.. About half of the teams who come to Belize through Lisa and UMVIM serve on the Belmopan High School construction site.

We have many teams working throughout Belize this year. We had a great time with the Salem UMC from Clarksville, Tennessee. They recently worked on the “Teacher’s Cottage” at the Corozal Methodist School. What a fantastic group!

The Corozal Eye clinic was up and going with our team of optometrists and eye surgeons who came in February. The special glasses they gave out to the kids were a big hit!

The week before Holy Week, Corozal Methodist had a special Sport’s Day parade through the streets of Corozal. The school is made up of different groups indicated by the three different colors. The kids are very proud of their groups!

Lisa and I appreciate the T-shirts, gifts, and YES, PEANUT BUTTER! Thank you Wesley Foundation from Western University in Bowling Green, KY!!!!

Lisa’s father, mother and cousin Julie visited at the end of February. They were dressed up and sassy getting ready to go on a sailing trip! We sure enjoyed their visit!!!!!!

Please pray for our family as we have all kinds of transtions coming up. We find ourselves preparing to graduate two of our children. Rachel will graduate in May with a Masters of Social Work from the University of Kentucky. She has decided to stay in Kentucky while she works under supervision for 2 years with the goal of becoming a LCSW. Becca, our youngest, will graduate from Centre College with a degree in Anthropology in May as well. Her goal is to further her education with post-graduate work.

We would be amiss if I did not mention Becca’s biggesst news! She is getting married a week after her college graduation! She will be marrying Jared Cook who has been her high school sweetheart. They will move to Raleigh, North Carolina while Jared will be entering into a graudate program with North Carolina State University, working toward a goal of PhD. in ”Applied Mathematics". Whew! It makes my brain hurt just to think about it! Becca will be exploring her educational opportunities after they move and hopes to find a post-graduate program in the Research Triangle Region of North Carolina where they will be living.

Please lift our family in prayer as we go through so many transitions. In addition to all this, Lisa will be having surgery in Lexington, Kentucky on May 5th. She will also be seeing her neurosurgeon in N.C. a couple weeks later to discuss future surgeries to help with pain. After a visit in KY that is already feeling too short we will return to Belize for a summer full of UMVIM teams!

Blessings Friends,

PJ and Lisa
